7 Must Have Brow Products

I think every teenage girl in the 90's went through the awful phase where excessively over plucking their brows to the extent that there they were no more than a few hairs thick was the in thing to do. I unfortunately was one of these teenagers and at 23 I am still trying to get my brows to a shape that I am happy with. The fact that this wasn't uncommon means that there is a huge amount of products out there that you can use to fill in and correct your brows.

I first started filling my brows in with Benefit's Brow Zings, and without beating around the bush because I didn't really know how to use it, it honestly just looked absolutely horrendous. I look back now and cringe and think I would have been better off not filling them at all. I think the biggest issue was the fact that the sales assistant on the Benefit counter sold me the wrong shade so I ended up looking like I had used a sharpie marker to draw them on (only exaggerating a tiny bit).

Instagram and Youtube beauty bloggers soon taught me the error of my ways though and after some dedicated regrowing and investment in good products I am at a point where despite my brows not being exactly what I want... I'm no longer embarrassed by them. So here are my five must have products for doing my brows:

1. Tweezers
As much as this is stating the obvious, tweezers are a super important part of keeping those stray hairs in check. I refuse point blank to pluck or shape my brows myself due to getting HD Brow treatments, I still use my tweezers on an almost daily basis to get those little hairs that clearly shouldn't be there. Mine are just a Boots own brand slanted pair which you can pick up here for only £1.80 and last for a really long time - perfect for plucking a few hairs here and there.

2. Brow Wiz
Most people have heard of this product by Anastasia Beverly Hills and it is one I wouldn't be without. I use this first to fill in any gaps and to round out the upper curve of my brow arch. The product transfers onto the skin with barely any pressure and is really easy to blend into the hairs. It gives me the perfect outline to follow when I use my Dip Brow to define my arch a bit more.

4. Angled Brow Brush
This brush is a must have when it comes to using creamy products to fill in your brows. The angled end makes it so easy to get defined, sharp lines and really helps you to be precise with where you are placing the product. My brow brush came as part of a really affordable brush set that I bought from Amazon and it does the job well enough. I am considering investing in a branded brush but I'm honestly just not sure if it would actually be any better than the one I'm already using.

5. Dip Brow
Now this is my personal holy grail of brow products, blowing all the others I've used before it out of the water. It is so creamy which makes it ridiculously easy to work with and a little really goes a long way. I use my angled brush with this to fill in and define the curve of my brows arch. I avoid putting this at the front of my brows (a mistake I used to make all the time) because it makes them look really harsh and badly done. It took me some time to get used to using this, and I still have some learning to do but even with the basic skills that I have, using this has made my brows look ten times better.

6. Brow Highlighter
While lots of people use powders or shadows to highlight underneath their brows arch, I always use my High Brow by Benefit. I've had this pencil now for a good few years and there is still lots more life in it yet. I use this religiously because it not only highlights my arch but it also helps give a nice clean, crisp edge to my brows giving them a much nicer finish.

7. Tinted Brow Gel
When applying makeup it should always be set with a powder or spray and your brows are no different. If you don't set them you will find your brows end up smudged across your face by lunchtime and that is never a good look. I use the tinted brow gel as I have really quite dark brows and it not only fills in any uneven colour, it also keeps the hairs in place and stops the makeup from smearing. If you are using cream products to fill your brows in, then brow gel is a must have.

I might not have the perfect brows and I certainly have lots of work to do when it comes to learning how to fill them in but having these seven products is really helping me to improve my skills. What are your must have brow products? Are there any that you think should be here?

Much love,

  1. I love my brow Wiz!!. I tried to go with the NYX Microbrow pencil because it was cheaper, but I feel like the Brow wixz has the advantage over most other brow pencils because its so easy to build up to the ideal brow shape. I also love the Dip Brow to get the power brows I love. Great post and thanks for sharing!

    1. The formula is really unique with the brow wiz I think! They definitely are great for building - which is so much better than most which leave you with harsh lines that take so long to blend in, if they blend at all.

Thank you, and thank you for reading!

  2. I so need to get myself some dip brow! Been wanting it for ages now and I just keep seeing it pop up everywhere! Great post and tips. I too ruined my brows as a teen. I even used to just shave them since its was quicker and easier (hides face)! Horrible.

    Love Hannah xx

    1. It's made such a difference to my brows! I am hoping to pick up the new brow definer as well soon to try out. I just love brow products!

Don't worry, I came so ridiculously close to doing that just recently because I was so frustrated with the tails! Everyones made brow mistakes at some point :)
